Samuel III vom Kervinshof is a male from the S-3 litter our 72nd litter of high quality German Drahthaars. Sam is a very ” fine fellow” from the superb Mirka x Erik breeding. Join us as we follow Sam from his arrival in Minnesota at 10 weeks of age through his progressive training program to a finished versatile hunting dog  Sam was placed in the home of Yong Moua who is an experienced trainer and committed to the proper development and management of a Mirka puppy. Sam is a carbon copy of his mother in every respect from the black roan color to the high drive work ethic shown at such an early age in these videos. Mirka was the 8th place dog in the prestigious German Hegewald test and was awarded the high rating of 11/11 in coat and conformation. Mirka is the complete package but she is not the type of dog for an amateur or novice handler. So we are pleased Sam is in the right hands and being managed properly. Note the handler has an assistant this allows the owner to handle his dog properly and the assistant is the shooter on the hunt. At this point several characteristics should be noted regarding Sam. His natural abilities are superb and his excellent coat allows him to work without reservation in harsh freezing Minnesota winters. Sam is obedient and this is the foundation of all advanced training and often the least adhered to in dog training. Sam has “style” and you cannot train style, desire, nose and other genetic predisposed qualities that are a products of selective breeding. These are inherited qualities and it is obvious when dogs do not possess them. It is important to note his performance from three to eight months of age. This is rather remarkable for such a young  puppy and his excellent nose enables him to find game at considerable distances. He is a natural retriever and not force broken to retrieve at this point but his owner introduced him correctly to dead and live birds and manages his retrieve by kneeling down. Many young dogs at this age will excitedly chew live birds or are reluctant to bring it back to the handler. Sam is very cooperative and that will be in his favor as he continues to learn new things. Samuel III is one “Happy Fellow” with a bright future and we look forward to watching his progress. At the end of the pheasant hunt I am not sure which one is most pleased with the day’s results SAM or YONG. I think it is the one who is smiling!!!!
